6 Strategies to Maximize Affiliate Links

If you’ve signed up for an affiliate program, you want to make it work for your business. In this post, you’ll learn how to can create a few marketing assets to put on autopilot so that you can perpetually drive revenue.

Got the Affiliate Link - Now what?

Downstage Media endorses a number of products and services. Basically, when I fall in love with something that saves me time, money, or both, I usually test it out for myself. And then I test it out on my clients. And then I start telling the world. If any of the people I tell buy it themselves with the link I provide them, I may get a small commission.

Note: I try to be pretty up front when I am being paid by a product should you buy it.

But what do you do with that affiliate link? Here are a few ideas.

  1. Social Media Posts

I create a bunch of social media posts around them. Then I plug them into my content mix. If you’re using the PAGER method to simplify your social media, it would go with your Promotional posts.

Bonus: Many times your affiliate companies will give you marketing assets and swipe copy that you can use. Use them!

Otherwise, create 3-5 social media posts based on that product and pointing people towards using your link.

2. Blog Posts, YouTube Videos, Podcast Episodes

Once a quarter write a blog post (but if you have a YouTube channel or podcast, then by all means use that long form channel instead). that directs an issue that the affiliate product solves.

Once I’ve created the blog post, I then create an additional 3-5 social media posts pointing people towards the blog post. This would go into the Articles category of the PAGER method for social media.

3. Put Ads in Long Form Content

You can put “ads” for the affiliate product in my long form content. You may notice that every blog post Downstage Media publishes, for example, has a break in the middle where there’s an image and a button for a lead generator of mine. Sometimes, it’s not a lead generator, but an ad for an affiliate link. But instead of my having to buy that ad, I just made it myself and have it on all of my blog posts.

4. Incorporate the Affiliate Product into Your Own Offerings

Try to build the affiliate product into the services that you offer to get your clients or customers to start using them. For example, many of our receive a free year of Business Made Simple when they work with Downstage Media. This way, they can get deeper learning on the concepts we’re going through anyway, and if they decide to renew, I get an affiliate commission a year later. It’s a long play, but a worthwhile one.

5. Pop Up on Your Website

If you don’t have any Events or specific Promotions coming up, then put a pop up on your website that leads them to the affiliate product. You can also put an announcement bar at the top of your website.

6. Email Signature

Create a few email signatures that your email client can automatically rotate through them. One of them can be your digital business card, but another can be for your affiliate link.

Strive to make at least 1% of your revenue for affiliate links - you can always increase it throughout the year!
